What are the prerequisites?
You have to be enrolled in the Terry College of Business (or
expect to be admitted, see more on this below). Simultaneously, you are
pursuing a degree in German.
How much German do I need to participate?
You should be comfortable expressing yourself in everyday situations.
It is recommended that you have already been to Germany prior to the exchange.
For instance, the UGA at Erlangen summer study abroad program offers a
good opportunity for you to become familiar with the German language and
culture.
For the internship, it is recommended that you take GRMN
3070 a/or GRMN 3080, as well as possibly GRMN 4001 before going to Nuremberg.
NB: Business classes at WiSo are conducted in
English and German. You are expected to take several classes in English and at least one in German.

What is the language course during the first
four weeks like?
The intensive language course is at the high intermediate or
advanced level, depending on placement. The class meets daily, M-F, and costs about 200 Euro.

Can I still apply for the certificate program
even if I haven't yet been admitted in the Terry College of Business and
won’t know until October?
Yes. You should follow the deadlines as listed above and submit
your applications to OIE, as well as your letter of commitments. Also,
compile all the materials you need for the WiSo application. By late Sept/
early November you should know for sure about your acceptance at Terry.
In case you are rejected, however, you can’t participate in this exchange
program.

How do I prepare for studying at a German university?
You will meet with Dr. DiBella and Dr. Kagel for an orientation in the
late fall. At that time, you will receive study tips and pertinent info
about your expected work load and suggested schedule.

What kind of financial support is available?
You should apply for a Kicklighter travel grant from the Department
of Germanic and Slavic Languages. This grant supports UGA students going
abroad studying Germanic or Slavic Languages. In the past, participants
received about $400. The deadline for this grant is late fall.

OIE Application Form
The Office of International Education (OIE) at UGA requires you
to fill out a mandatory application form. This includes a fee of $ 125
which is used to cover expenses for exchange students coming to UGA. OIE,
for instance, will assist you in your travel preparations and with the
procedures involving course credit transfer when you return.
